(西門豹)便吩咐自己的部下，綁起三個長老，並且把他們三個人全部丟入水裡。
那些參與這項計畫的不肖官員們，這時候看見(西門豹)的眼睛看向他們。他們全都嚇壞了。
這幾個官員便上前跪下，並且當眾認罪。他們編造了河神要娶新娘這件事情。這件事情是一個謊言。
(西門豹)這時候，看著周圍所有的群眾，大聲宣布，從今天開始，河神不再娶新娘了。
百姓一陣歡呼，這些百姓終於免除了心中長期的恐懼。
