How to make a cow understand the music you play(對牛彈琴)

In the Eastern Han Dynasty of China, there was a scholar who studied Buddhism. His name is (Mou Rong),

Once, a few friends asked him some questions about Buddhism. He is very enthusiastic to share his research results.

After the conversation, these friends asked him.

You are an expert in Buddhism, but when you explain your views, why don't you cite articles in Buddhism.

Why do you cite classic Chinese books to illustrate your research results on Buddhism?

(Mou Rong) told a story.

During the Warring States Period in China, there was a musician named (Gong Mingyi ) who was very good at playing the Chinese guqin.

One day, he played a great song to a cow .The cow is eating grass.

After five minutes, he finished playing.

But in these five minutes, the cow has been concentrating on eating grass. The cow seemed to have not heard the song.

After he thought, he changed his strategy.

He plucked the strings to simulate the buzzing of mosquitoes, and he plucked the strings to simulate the deep cry of a small calf.

This time, the cow was not eating grass. The cow looked up at him and listened to these sounds intently.

(Mou Rong) said to these friends.

You have not been exposed to Buddhism,

So if I quote a Buddhist article to illustrate my research results,

You will not be able to understand what I want to express.

So I use classic books that you are familiar with to illustrate. This way it will be easy for you to understand.

This idiom is used to describe a person’s inability to understand what you are trying to express.

This idiom implies a derogatory meaning. So use it with caution.

Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts did you have after hearing this story.

Are your communication skills good? When you want to communicate with others, do you think from his standpoint and communicate with him in a way that he can understand?

I hope this story will give you some new gains.

(How to make a cow understand the music you play)
