In the famous book (The Analects of
Confucius), a story is recorded.
Confucius has a very good student. This
student's name is (Zeng Shen).
(Zeng Shen) also has a few students, one of
whom is named (Yang Fu).
One day, (Yang Fu) and his teacher (Zeng
Shen) were having a conversation.
(Yang Fu) said to (Zeng Shen).
I was appointed to serve as the prosecutor
of the Kingdom of Lu.
So I want to ask you, how can I do this job
well.
Would you please give me some suggestions.
(Zeng Shen) answered.
When you are investigating and trying
cases, you should try your best to find out the truth.
But after you find out the truth about the
case, you should not feel happy and proud.
On the contrary, you should sympathize and
pity these criminals.
(Yang Fu ) said.
Why should I sympathize with these
criminals?
(Zeng Shen) answered.
When a person commits a crime, we often
only see one-sided reasons.
But the real source of the problem may come
from the entire society.
Let me give you an example.
If a government official of a kingdom is
corrupt and takes bribes and lies.
What do you think will be the life of the
people in this kingdom?
(Yang Fu ) said.
Then there must be no justice in this
society, and many kind people will be bullied. Many people's lives will fall
into hardship.
(Zeng Shen) answered.
This is what I mean.
A person's crime, in addition to his own
factors, we must consider that there must be some problems in this society that
will trigger his crime.
There must be something wrong with the
ruling class in this society, so the people will commit crimes in order to
survive.
Therefore, you should have sympathy and
pity for these offenders.
This idiom is used to remind us that we
should have sympathy and compassion for some disadvantaged and criminal people.

孔子有一個很好的學生，這個學生的名字叫做(曾參)。
(曾參)也有幾個學生，其中一個學生名字叫做(陽膚)。
有一天，(陽膚)與他的老師(曾參)兩個人在對話。
(陽膚)對(曾參)說。
我被委任要擔任魯王國的檢察官。
所以我想請問你，我要如何才能做好這個工作呢。
請你給我一些建議好嗎。
曾參回答。
你在調查案件與審判案件的時候，你應該要盡全力去找出真相。
但你找到案件真相之後，你不應該感到高興與驕傲。
相反的，你應該同情與哀憫這些犯罪者。
(陽膚)說。
為何我要同情這些犯罪的人呢。
(曾參)回答。
一個人會犯罪，我們往往只看見片面的原因。
但是真正的問題根源，可能來自於整個社會。
我舉例來說。
如果一個王國的政府官員貪汙且收賄且說謊。
你認為這個王國中的人民生活會是怎樣的情況呢。
(陽膚)說。
那這個社會一定沒有正義，有很多善良的人會被欺負。有很多人的生活會陷入困苦。
(曾參)回答。
這就是我想表達的意思。
一個人的犯罪，除了他自已本身的因素之外，我們必須考慮到，這個社會一定是哪裡有問題，所以才會引發他犯罪。
這個社會的統治階層一定是哪裡有問題，所以人民為了活下去才會犯罪。
因此，你應該同情與哀憫對這些犯罪者。
這句成語被用來提醒我們，我們應該對一些弱勢與犯罪的人保持同情與憐憫。
