The fruit of that plum tree is bitter(道旁苦李)
During the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China, there was a famous minister whose name is (Wang Rong).
One of his stories is recorded in history
books.
When he was seven years old, one day his
teacher took him out for an outing with some children of the same age.
Everyone walked together, everyone was
talking and laughing.
Suddenly a kid shouted.
Look at it, there is a plum tree in front
with many plums on it.
We all go over to pick plums and eat.
All the children cheered, except (Wang
Rong), all the children ran over and climbed the tree to pick plums.
The teacher asked him.
Why don't you go pick plums.
He replied.
Those plums are bitter and unpalatable.
The teacher asked.
Why do you think those plums are very
bitter and unpalatable.
He replied.
This plum tree grows by the side of the
road. Many people come and go.
If these plums are delicious, they would
have been eaten up by passers-by.
So I guess these plums must be very bitter
and unpalatable.
He just finished saying this.
The few children who climbed the tree first
yelled.
Damn. These plums are so bitter and
unpalatable.
This idiom is extended to describe a

(The fruit of that plum tree is bitter)
