He has no clue(不識時務)
During the Eastern Han Dynasty in China,
there was a famous minister named (Zhang Ba).
There is a story about him in history
books.
At the peak of his official career, he made
a request to the king.
He says.
I'm sick, so I hope to quit my official
position and go home to recuperate.
The king agreed to his request.
He rested at home for a few years.
(Please refer to this blog 2020/10/27-Zhang
Ba)
Because of his great work ability and good
morals, the king specially hired him a few years later to serve as an important
official position in the central government.
The king's attitude was very firm, so he
had no choice but to agree.
In the central government at that time,
there was one person with the most powerful power. He was the queen's elder
brother, and he was a general. His name is (Deng Zhi).
The general has long heard of his
reputation.
The general took the initiative to talk to
him.
The general said.
I heard that your work ability and
character are very good, if I have the opportunity, I would like to invite you
to dinner. We may be able to become good friends.
He said to the general respectfully.
I am very grateful for your invitation, but
my health is very poor.
Social entertainment will affect my health,
so I will go home after get off work.
I sincerely thank you.
The general later invited him several
times, but his answer was the same.
The two of them did not develop friendship
afterwards.
Some other government officials found it
strange and asked him.
Why don't you eat with the general? If you
become friends with him, it will be of great help to your official career.
In addition, some other government
officials mocked him.
He is a fool. He has no clue. He couldn't
see who had the most power now, so he didn't know that he should go to curry
favor with this person.
He laughed at these criticisms without
arguing.
This idiom is used to describe a person who
has no clue and cannot see who has the most power.
Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts
did you have after hearing this story.
If you were him, what choice would you
make? Why do you think he should keep his distance from this general?
I hope this story will give you some new
gains.
(He has no clue)
