All the emotions and desires common to human beings(七情六慾)
In Chinese idioms, some idioms contain two
sentences at the same time.
It is usually because the meanings of the
two sentences are similar, or the two sentences can complement each other.
This idiom is one of them.
There is a classic book titled in
Confucianism called the Book of Rites.
There is a passage in this book.
There are a total of seven common and
innate emotions among human beings.
Happiness, anger, sadness, fear, love,
hatred, desire.
We should face up to these emotions, and
use education and etiquette to guide everyone to get along with their own
emotions correctly.
During the Warring States Period in China,
the prime minister of the Qin Kingdom (Lu Buwei) edited a book.
There is a passage in this book.
We humans have six main desires,
Live longer, avoid death, hear with ears,
see with eyes, eat with mouth, and smell with nose.
Humans have desires because of greed.
Desire generates emotion, and emotion requires temperance.
A person of high morals should restrain his
desires and emotions by learning etiquette.
