He lamented the difficulties of the times and pityed the suffering people.(悲天憫人)

During the Tang Dynasty in China, there was a famous writer who was also a very upright minister. His name was (Han Yu).

The central government of the Tang Dynasty had a very special official position. The duty of the person in this official position is to discover and point out the king's mistakes.

The name of the official who held this position at the time was (Yangcheng), and he was 32 years older than him.

He wrote an article to Yangcheng.

I respect your knowledge and ethics very much.

You originally did not want to come out to take up this position, you live in seclusion at home.

You took this position because the king specially hired you.

But in fact, you still resist in your heart, so although you have this power, you never use it.

I want to make some of my personal opinions to you.

I think most of the intellectuals who are vigorous insist on independence from the government.

These intellectuals will not change their persistence and attitude in order to cater to those in power.

But there is another aspect of intellectuals. All intellectuals should speak up when they see unfair things, and should empathize with others when they see the pain and sorrow of others and help them.

This is another more important principle.

An intellectual should not only satisfy his own interests and ignore others, he should help those around him also get happiness.

Isn’t that the case with the two sages of Confucius and Mozi in ancient China?

They understand that God has given them special talents, and they hope that they can use their abilities to help others and make the world a better place.

Therefore, these two ancient sages have been diligent and unremitting throughout their lives, trying their best to pursue self-moral perfection and serve many people.

An intellectual should be the eyes and ears of this era, should see and hear the suffering of all people, and then take action to change these unfair and unjust things.

This is what I think the most respectable intellectual looks like.

This idiom is used to describe a person lamenting the hardships of the world and pitying people's pain.

Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts did you have after hearing this story.

What should the intellectuals in your mind be? What actions have you taken to make the world better?

I hope this story will give you some new gains.

(He lamented the difficulties of the times and pityed the suffering people.)
