I want to help you but I can't help it.(愛莫能助)
(The Book of Songs) is the earliest
compilation of poems in China.
There are 305 poems in this book.
These poems were written over 500 years,
from the 11th century BC to the 6th century BC.
The content of these poems is mainly
divided into three categories.
The first category is folk poems from all
over China at that time
The second category is the poetry of the
Zhou Dynasty that ruled China at that time.
The third category is the poems used by the
royal family and nobles in the Zhou Dynasty.
At that time, the Zhou Dynasty had a very
important minister, his name was (Zhong Shanfu).
The king of the Zhou Dynasty sent him to
perform a very important task.
The task is to create a city-state. He has
a good friend who wrote a poem to praise and encourage him.
There is a paragraph in this poem as
follows
There is a proverb.
We like to eat soft things. We don't like
to eat hard things.
And most people follow this principle.
But (Zhong Shanfu) is different from
others. He doesn't like to eat soft things, he likes to eat hard things.
He takes care of the disadvantaged groups
in society, and he fights against those in society who use their power to
oppress others.
There is another proverb.
We usually see the shortcomings of others,
and we usually don't see the advantages of others.
But according to my observation, this
proverb does not apply to (Zhong Shanfu).
He has too many advantages. He has almost
no shortcomings. I want to find out his shortcomings, I want to remind him to
correct his shortcomings, but I can't do it.
He is a man of integrity,
When he saw our king behave badly, he would
advise our king.
Our king takes his advice very seriously,
and our king is very happy to hear his advice.
There are two idioms in this paragraph.
The first idiom literally means that a
person likes to eat soft things rather than hard things.
It is used to describe a person who bullies
the weak and bows his head to the powerful.
The second idiom means that I want to help
him but I can't do anything.

當時周王朝有一個很重要的大臣，他的名字叫做(仲山甫)。
周王朝的國王派遣他去執行一項很重要的任務。
這個任務是創建一座城邦。他有一個好朋友寫了一首詩讚美並且鼓勵他。
這首詩中有一段如下
有一句諺語。
我們喜歡吃軟的東西。我們不喜歡吃硬的東西。
而且大多數人都遵循這項原則。
但是(仲山甫)與其他人不一樣。他不喜歡吃軟的東西，他喜歡吃硬的東西。
他照顧社會上的弱勢族群，他打擊社會上那一些利用權勢欺壓他人的人。
還有一句諺語。
我們通常看見別人的缺點，我們通常看不見別人的優點。
但是根據我的觀察，這句諺語不適用於(仲山甫)。
他的優點太多了。他幾乎沒有缺點。我想找出他的缺點，我想提醒他改正他的缺點，但我無法做到。
他是一個正直的人，
他看見我們國王有不好的行為時，他會勸諫我們的國王。
我們的國王非常重視他的意見，我們國王非常樂意聽到他的勸諫。
這一段中有兩句成語。
第一句成語字面上的意思是一個人喜歡吃軟的東西而不喜歡吃硬的東西。
被用來形容一個人欺負弱者而對強權低頭。
第二句成語的意思是我想要幫助他但我卻無能為力。
