This is a seedling that will not bloom(苗而不秀)
The famous book (The Analects of Confucius)
was not written by Confucius himself.
It was the students of Confucius who
recorded what he said to the students and compiled them into a book.
Confucius lived about 2,500 years ago, when
there was no paper.
The students engraved the words of
Confucius on thin slices of bamboo. Because engraving these words is very time
consuming. So these sentences are very concise.
There are two sentences in this book as
follows.
Confucius pointed to a paddy field and
said.
Look at that paddy field. Although some of
the seedlings in the rice field have grown, not all the seedlings will bloom.
And those seedlings that will bloom will
not all bear fruit.
Some scholars of later generations believe
that when Confucius saw the sprouting seedlings, he thought of one of his
favorite students, who died at the age of 40.
Confucius felt that this student was like a
seedling that would not bloom. So he said this.
Other scholars believe that Confucius
simply used this phenomenon to remind his students of a simple truth. When we
do something, we all presuppose a good result.
But the result of this matter may not be so
good.
This idiom is often used to describe a person
who dies very young.
This idiom is also used to describe a
person who is very smart but he does not achieve anything when he grows up.

著名的(孔夫子論語)這一本書不是孔子自已寫的。
而是孔子的學生們，把他對學生說的話記錄下來並集結成冊。
孔子生活的年代大約距離現在2500年前，那個年代並沒有紙。
這些學生們把孔子說的話刻在削薄的竹片上。因為刻這些字非常的耗時。所以這些語句都非常的精簡。
這本書中有兩句話如下。
孔子指著一片稻田說。
你們看那片稻田，稻田中有些禾苗雖然已經成長，但不是全部的禾苗都會開花。
而那些會開花的禾苗不會全部都結果。
後代有些學者認為，孔子看見了那些發芽的禾苗時，他想到了他最愛的一個學生，這個學生40歲就過世了。
孔子覺得這個學生就像是一株不會開花的禾苗。因此他說了這句話。
還有些學者認為，孔子只是藉由這個現象，提醒他的學生們一個簡單的真理。我們做一件事情時，我們都會預設有好的結果。
但這件事情的成果卻不一定會那麼好。
這句成語通常被用來形容一個人很年輕就過世了。
這句成語也被用來形容一個人很聰明但他長大後卻沒有任何成就。
