(Dai Sheng) was an important Confucian
scholar during the Han Dynasty.
He collected many Confucian articles and
compiled them into a book. This book is (Book of Rites).
In this book, there are many stories about
etiquette.
One of the stories is as follows.
An important minister of the Jin Kingdom
built a new house. His name is (Xianwenzi).
Many other ministers in the kingdom went to
congratulate him.
One of the ministers was named (Zhang Lao).
His congratulations are as follows.
This house is so good, this house is so huge.
This house is so beautiful, this house is
so gorgeous.
This house is suitable for many people to
gather here together.
Everyone gathers here to sing happily and
hold ceremonies to worship ancestors here.
Everyone gathers here to cry in grief and
hold a grand funeral here.
(Xianwenzi) replied after listening to his
congratulatory speech.
Your congratulations speak to my heart.
I took great care to make this house so
huge and beautiful.
The reason is that I want to gather my
family and friends here for gatherings from time to time.
Everybody gathers here to sing, everybody
gathers here to cry.
When I die of old age, all my relatives and
friends can hold funerals for me here, and after I die, they can often hold
sacrificial ceremonies for me.

等到我年老死去後，我的所有親朋好友們，可以在這裡為我舉辦喪禮，在我死後，可以經常為我舉辦祭祀典禮。
