His surname is (Bao), his parents gave him
the name (Shu Ya), and he was born in Anhui Province, China.

He was an important minister of the Qi
Kingdom in the Spring and Autumn Period. His good friend (Guan Zhong) was one

He and (Guan Zhong) originally belonged to
different camps, he followed the second prince of the Qi Kingdom, and (Guan
Zhong) followed the eldest prince of the Qi Kingdom.
The king of Qi Kingdom died, and the two
princes fought for the throne.
As a result, the second prince he followed
became king.
After the second prince became king, he
killed the eldest prince.
The second prince also ordered the killing
of all the eldest prince's men.
After hearing this order, he said to the
second prince, the new king.
(Guan Zhong) is a very talented person, you
should not kill him.
Said the king angrily.
(Guan Zhong) almost killed me during my
fight for the throne with my brother.
I can't spare him.
He answered.
After you become king, do you want to keep
our kingdom as it is or to make our kingdom stronger than it is now?
Said the king.
I certainly hope that our kingdom will be
very strong under my leadership.
He answered.
A wise king must let go of personal
grudges.
If you just want to keep our kingdom as it
is, these existing officials, including me, can help you do that.
But if you're going to be the most powerful
kingdom, you need more talented people.
His talent is far more than everyone I
know, and he can help you to make the Qi Kingdom the most powerful kingdom.
The king answered.
If I spared him, you would suggest putting
him in that position.
He answered.
Make him prime minister.
Said the king.
In my mind this position should go to you.
He answered.
I am far less capable than him, and he is
better suited to be prime minister than I am.
After thinking about it for a few days, the
king decided to follow his advice.

歷史書上記載了一個他的故事。
他與(管仲)原屬不同的陣營，他跟隨齊王國的二王子，(管仲)跟隨齊王國的大王子。
齊王國的國王死了，這兩個王子爭奪王位。
結果他跟隨的二王子成了國王。
二王子成為國王後，就把大王子殺了。
二王子還下令殺了所有大王子的人馬。
聽到這個命令後，他對二王子也就是新任的國王說。
(管仲)是一個很有才能的人，你不應該殺了他。
國王很生氣地說。
我與我的哥哥爭奪王位的過程中，(管仲)差點殺了我。
我不可能饒了他。
他回答。
你成為國王後，你想要讓我們王國保持現在的狀態還是要讓我們王國比現在更強盛呢?
國王說。
我當然希望我們王國在我的領導下變得非常強盛。
他回答。
一個賢明的國王必須拋棄私人的恩怨。
如果你只是要讓我們王國保持現狀，包含我在內的這些現有的官員就可以幫你達成這個目標。
但是如果你要成為最強大的王國，你就需要更多有才能的人。
他的才能遠遠超過我認識的所有人，他才可以幫助你，讓齊王國成為最強盛的王國。
國王回答。
若我饒了他，你會建議讓他擔任那個職位。
他回答。
讓他擔任宰相。
國王說。
我心目中認為這個職位應該讓你擔任。
他回答。
我的能力遠不及他，他比我更適合擔任首相。
國王考慮了幾天後，決定聽從他的建議。
齊王國在他們兩個人的協助治理下，幾年後，成為當時中國所有王國中最強盛的王國。
