Compassionate for orphans and caring for those living in hardship(恤孤念苦)
The Song Dynasty in China is divided into
two periods by historians.
The first stage was the Northern Song
Dynasty (960-1127 AD).
The second stage was the Southern Song
Dynasty (AD-1127 to AD 1279).
In 1129 AD, the Southern Song Dynasty moved
the capital to the city (Lin'an), which is the current Hangzhou City of
Zhejiang Province.
After the fall of the Southern Song
Dynasty, a scholar named (Wu Zimu) wrote a book.
This book records many customs in Lin'an
City before the fall of the Southern Song Dynasty, and also depicts the urban
landscape at that time and the daily life of people of various identities
living in the city.
A passage in this book describes it as
follows.
In this city, many wealthy businessmen are
not local, they are mostly from other provinces in China.
Many of these wealthy businessmen were very
benevolent and kind.
These people have great respect for the
elderly and pity for the poor.
These people care for the poor and have
mercy on the orphans.
These people usually observe the people
they know around them, and if they find that some people are living in poverty
because of accidents, they will give them appropriate money to help them
through the difficulties after a thorough understanding.
In this city, there are many people with
extremely difficult lives.
In some families, the male owner died very
young, and his wife and young children did not have the money to hold a funeral
for him.
These people will assist these widows with
funeral matters.
In the cold winter, some disadvantaged
families have no way to go out to do odd jobs, and the lives of these
disadvantaged families are in trouble.
These people secretly stuff some gold or
silver into the cracks in the doors of these homes at night.
When people from these vulnerable families
wake up the next day to see the sudden appearance of gold, they thank God and
bless the stranger who provided their help.
Still others do not have enough cold
clothing and lack food.
They will give these people enough food and
warm clothing.
There is a saying. God will give many
blessings to those who do good deeds, and will bring great misfortune to those
who do bad deeds.
I think this saying has a great influence
on people, so these people are willing to do a lot of good things.
This idiom means caring for orphans and
caring for those who live in hardships
Dear friends, what are your feelings or
thoughts after listening to this story?
Do you believe that good and evil are
rewarded? Do you have a habit of helping those who are in trouble?
I hope this story will give you something
new to gain.
(Compassionate for orphans and caring
for those living in hardship)
