The Song Dynasty in China is divided into
two periods by historians.
The first stage was the Northern Song
Dynasty (960-1127 AD).
The second stage was the Southern Song
Dynasty (AD-1127 to AD 1279).
In 1129 AD, the Southern Song Dynasty moved
the capital to the city (Lin'an), which is the current Hangzhou City of
Zhejiang Province.
After the fall of the Southern Song
Dynasty, a scholar named (Wu Zimu) wrote a book.
This book records many customs in Lin'an
City before the fall of the Southern Song Dynasty, and also depicts the urban
landscape at that time and the daily life of people of various identities
living in the city.
A passage in this book describes it as
follows.
Since the Southern Song Dynasty moved the
capital to Hangzhou, the city's population has grown.
According to the records of history books,
the Sui Dynasty conducted the first household census in Hangzhou, and there
were a total of 15,380 households here.
The Tang Dynasty conducted two household
censuses, and the number of households here grew from 35,710 to 86,258.
The last population and household census
conducted by the Song Dynasty showed that there were 391,259 households with a
total population of 1,240,760 people living here.
In this city, many wealthy businessmen are
not local, they are mostly from other provinces in China.
There is a mountain in the city of
Hangzhou. Although the mountain is not high above sea level, there are many
tall and beautiful trees on the mountain. If you look at it from a distance,
the mountain looks like a phoenix about to take off.
Therefore, the mountain was named Phoenix
Mountain.
These wealthy businessmen believe that as
long as they hide under the phoenix's wings, the phoenix will protect and look
after their families and businesses.
Therefore, their residences are clustered
in the vicinity of Phoenix Mountain.
Most of these wealthy merchants were
engaged in shipping and trading, some specializing in river transportation, and
some in sea transportation.
Many of the gigantic ships they owned
traveled across vast rivers and endless seas.
Goods from all over the world are therefore
gathered in this huge city.
In this huge city, many people have
established their own families and started their own businesses.

來自各個地方的貨品因此匯聚在這座巨大的城市中。
這座巨大的城市中，許多人在這裡建立了自己的家庭，並且開創了屬於自己的事業。
