We wait comfortably for our tired opponents to appear(以佚待勞)

During the Warring States Period of China, there was a famous general whose name was (Wu Qi).

The art of war book he wrote occupies an important position in ancient Chinese military classics.

There is a passage in this book as follows.

The king of the Wei Kingdom asked.

What steps would you follow to train soldiers?

He answered.

If a soldier does not learn the skills of combat to fight, then the soldier will definitely die on the battlefield. If the soldiers in an army do not know the tactics and methods of collective fighting, the army will definitely be defeated.

I would first train the soldiers to learn individual fighting skills, and then train these soldiers to understand the tactics and methods of collective fighting.

The king asked.

If you were asked to train an army of 10,000 people, how would you increase the efficiency of your training?

He answered.

Our personal abilities and energy are limited, so I will first select 10 elites from these 10,000 people, and then I will personally train 10 elites.

After I have trained 10 elites to learn their personal combat skills, I will then train them how to teach others to learn these combat skills.

After these ten people have been trained, they can each train ten more people.

Before long, 100 of these soldiers will have completed their training.

After the 100 people complete their training, they can each train ten more people.

Before long, 1,000 of these soldiers will have completed their training.

In this way, I can quickly teach these 10,000 people personal combat skills.

The king asked.

So how would you train these soldiers to understand the tactics and methods of collective warfare?

He answered.

Changes on the battlefield are very rapid, so a general must be familiar with various tactics.

I will continue to practice until all the soldiers are familiar with various offensive formations and various defensive formations, various raid formations and various formations to lure the enemy.

The king asked again.

If you were asked to lead this well-trained army into battle, what points would you remind yourself to pay attention to?

He answered.

I will lead the army to garrison a place that is beneficial to our battle, and then I will make a battle plan according to the terrain of this place.

I will also feed all the soldiers and keep the will of all soldiers high.

Then we just wait in comfort and wait for the tired enemy to appear.

This idiom means that we wait comfortably for a tired opponent to appear.

Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

Do you agree with his approach? If you were to be the leader of an army, how would you lead the army?

I hope this story will give you something new to gain.

(We wait comfortably for our tired opponents to appear)
