幾年後，國王死了。太子繼位成為新的國王。
新的國王不喜歡鄧通，新的國王撤除鄧通的公職。
新的國王派人清查鄧通的帳務，新的國王發現鄧通除了用國王賜給他的那座銅礦中的銅鑄造法定錢幣之外，他還用別的銅礦的銅來鑄造法定錢幣。
這是一項嚴重的罪行，因為別的銅礦的銅是屬於國王的財產。

他破產後，新的國王下令。
