In 209 BC, Chen Sheng and more than 900
others were conscripted by the central government to build fortifications in
Hebei Province.
However, their journey was seriously
delayed by several days of heavy rain, which washed away bridges and roads.
The laws of the Qin dynasty were very
strict, and if they did not arrive in Hebei Province within the allotted time,
they were sentenced to death.
The rain stopped, and one night he sat
quietly thinking about the status quo, and he made a decision.
He decided to take risks, to rebel against
the Qin dynasty, to start a revolution.
He needed the power of the masses to make a
revolution.
How did he get the more than 900 people
around him to follow him?
He decided to use people's natural fear and
belief in supernatural powers to influence those 900 people.
He arranged for some of his good friends to
do two things.
Every day they had to catch fish from the
river to feed more than 900 people.
He arranged for his friends to make many
small strips of cloth.
On these little strips of cloth are a few
words. Chen Sheng will be king.
His cronies stuffed the little strips of
cloth into the bellies of the fish that everyone ate for dinner.
On the first night, when more than 900 of
them ate dinner, many of them felt strange and surprised when they saw this
little piece of cloth after cutting open the fish.
They were stationed in the wild and he had
his cronies make many small bamboo cages.
On the second night, in the middle of the
night, his cronies lit torches on the outskirts of the camp and then placed
small bamboo cages on the outside of the torches.
He used this simple tool to create a
mysterious and eerie atmosphere.
His cronies would hold up torches and
imitate the sound of a fox, and then his cronies would repeat a phrase in a low
voice.
Chen Sheng will be king.
On the morning of the third day, when the
more than 900 people saw Chen Sheng, they all looked in awe and fear.
At noon on the third day, Chen Sheng saw
that the time was ripe, and he made a speech to the more than 900 people who
were travelling with him.

第二天晚上，他的親信在半夜的時候，在營地的外圍點燃火把，然後在火把外面套上小竹籠。
他用這個簡單的工具創造出一種神秘而且詭譎的氛圍。
他的親信們舉著火把然後學狐狸的叫聲，他的親信們接著低沉的重複說一句話。
陳勝將會成為國王。
