He is stupid, but he thinks he is smarter than others(燕石亂玉)

He is stupid, but he thinks he is smarter than others(燕石亂玉)

In the Warring States period of China, there was a famous thinker called Que Zi.

He wrote a story.

There was a man in the Song Kingdom who travelled to the Yan Kingdom.

During his travels, he picked up a beautifully coloured stone that he thought was of great value.

He thought it was fine jade.

After he brought the jade back home, he couldn't help but show off to his friends that he had found this very valuable jade.

His friends told him that they wanted to look at the jade.

He agreed to their request.

A few days later he invited his friends to his house.

His attitude was very cautious, he put on his most beautiful clothes, he even took a bath first, and he even held an offering ceremony.

He carefully took out a box and took out this piece of jade wrapped in ten pieces of the hardest leather and ten pieces of the softest satin.

He placed the jade on the table and his friends were all amazed.

But one of them burst out laughing.

Confused, he asked the friend who was laughing so loudly.

Why are you laughing?

The friend told him.

This stone is very beautiful, but this stone is not jade.

This stone is worthless.

He was very angry when he heard this.

He growled at the friend.

Don't try to deceive me, I know your intention, you deliberately belittled my jade, and then you want to buy this precious jade at a low price.

He kicked the friend out of his house.

This man still holds this ordinary stone in high esteem.

This idiom is used to describe a person who is stupid but thinks he is smarter than others.

Dear friend, what are your feelings or thoughts after listening to this story?

Why do you think this person reacted in this way? Have you ever made a similar mistake?

I hope this story can give you a new harvest.

(He is stupid, but he thinks he is smarter than others)
