He sweated a lot, so his whole back was wet(汗流浹背)

There was a famous general in the Han Dynasty called Zhou Bo.

History books tell a story about him.

The king appointed him prime minister of the kingdom. Since the Han Kingdom had just been founded, there were many things to be done, so the king appointed another minister as deputy prime minister. The deputy prime minister's name was Chen Ping.

A few months later, at a state meeting, the king asked him a question.

Last year, there were several criminal cases in our kingdom.

he replied.

I don't know how many criminal cases there were in our kingdom last year.

the king asked him again.

How much tax was collected in our kingdom last year?

he replied.

I don't know how much tax was collected in our kingdom last year.

The king asked him two questions in a row and he couldn't give the right answer. He felt so ashamed and nervous, and he sweated so much that his whole back was wet.

The king turned his head and asked the deputy prime minister, "Can you tell me the answer to these two questions I have asked you?

The Deputy Prime Minister replied.

There are officials in charge of these two matters, and if the King wants to know the correct answer, I can send these two officials to this meeting immediately.

Asked the King.

Who are the officials in charge of these two matters?

replied the Deputy Prime Minister.

The officials in charge of these two matters are the Attorney General and the Minister of Finance.

Asked the King.

I am very puzzled, these two things are extremely important, how come you two Prime Ministers don't know the correct number of these two things?

Have you failed in your duty?

The Deputy Prime Minister replied.

The job of the Prime Minister is to help you supervise the various officials so that they do their jobs well, and to help you look after the stability and security of the lives of all the people in the kingdom.

The Prime Minister's job is to help you maintain good communication channels with neighbouring kingdoms and princes within the realm, and to monitor whether climate change has caused disasters in each area of the realm, and to provide assistance.

These are the duties of the Prime Minister, in my opinion.

After listening to the Deputy Prime Minister's reply, the King smiled and said to the Deputy Prime Minister

I am satisfied with your answer and I think what you have said is true.

The direct translation of this idiom is that he sweated so much that his whole back was wet.

This idiom is used to describe a person who looks very ashamed and frightened.

This idiom is also used to describe a person who is working hard.

Dear friend, what kind of inspiration or thought do you have after listening to this story?

Do you know what your job is? Are you doing a good job?

I hope this story can give you a new harvest.

(He sweated a lot, so his whole back was wet)
