Change social customs(移風易俗)
During the Warring States period in China,
there was a famous official in the Kingdom of Qin, his name was Li Si.
History books record a story about him.
237 BC. The king of Qin Kingdom issued a
new decree.
All people who are not from Qin Kingdom
must leave Qin Kingdom within the time limit.
So Li Si wrote a letter to the king of Qin.
The first paragraph of the letter reads as
follows
I think this new decree you have issued is
wrong.
The famous king of the Qin Kingdom in the
Spring and Autumn Period (Ying Renhao). During his reign, he appointed five
wise men from other kingdoms, and these five wise men helped the Qin Kingdom
become the most powerful kingdom in that era.
The famous king of Qin Kingdom (Ying
Quliang) in the Warring States Period. During his reign, he helped (Shang Yang)
to carry out political and cultural reforms.
(Shang Yang) was a member of the Wei Kingdom.
His reforms changed the customs of the Qin Kingdom and the ideas of the people.
The national power of the Qin Kingdom changed from weak to strong, and the
people of the Qin Kingdom became very attached to the Qin Kingdom.
A famous king (Ying Si) of the Qin Kingdom
in the Warring States Period. When he was in power, he fully supported (Zhang
Yi's) strategy.
(Zhang Yi) is a member of the Wei Kingdom.
His strategy greatly increased the size of the Qin Kingdom. He made Qin the
most powerful of the seven kingdoms.
The famous king of the Qin Kingdom (Ying
Ji) in the Warring States Period. During his reign, Fan Ju was appointed Prime
Minister of the Qin Kingdom.
(Fan Ju) was a member of the Wei Kingdom.
Under his leadership, the domestic politics of the Qin Kingdom were stable, and
the Qin King's control over the military and economic power of the kingdom
reached its peak.
From these four examples, we can clearly
see a fact.
If these four great kings in the history of
the Qin Kingdom had not accepted the advice of the wise men of other kingdoms
and had not gotten close to the capable people of other kingdoms, Qin would not
be as powerful as it is today.
This idiom means to change the atmosphere
and customs of society.

(Change social customs)
