Enjoy the present happiness(快意當前)
During the Warring States period in China,
there was a famous official in the Kingdom of Qin, his name was Li Si.
History books record a story about him.
237 BC. The king of Qin Kingdom issued a
new decree.
All people who are not from Qin Kingdom
must leave Qin Kingdom within the time limit.
So Li Si wrote a letter to the king of Qin.
The second paragraph of the letter reads as
follows
The Qin Kingdom is currently under your
leadership and is extremely powerful. Your palace is filled with precious
stones and beautiful jade from all over China. The utensils and objects you use
are very beautiful. Your horses are very expensive. Your palace is full of
beautiful women from different kingdoms.
And have you ever thought about a very
simple fact? Most of these items were not made in the Qin Kingdom.
If you think that all these intellectuals
from other kingdoms will harm the Qin Kingdom, why do you love and use music,
silk and handicrafts from other kingdoms so much?
I think the reason is very simple, we feel
the most essential part of each kingdom's culture through these exquisite
items, we satisfy our perception through these exquisite products, and we enjoy
the happiness of the moment through these beautiful music.
If you can accept these exquisite items imported
from other kingdoms into the Qin Kingdom today, why are you unwilling to accept
the intellectuals from other kingdoms who have come to the Qin Kingdom?
Are these exquisite items more valuable
than these brilliant minds?
If you really think that these exquisite
objects are worth more than these bright minds, then I must tell you that this
idea will prevent you from winning the respect of all the people in all of
China.
It will prevent you from achieving the
ideal of uniting all of China.
This idiom means to enjoy the happiness of
the moment.
Dear friend, what kind of inspiration or
thought do you have after listening to this story?
What do you think is more valuable, a wise
head or a precious jewel? Do you have any ideas that prevent you from achieving
your ideals?
I hope this story can give you some new
insights.
Enjoy the present happiness(快意當前)
