He doesn't value money, he values those who
have talent.(輕財敬士)
During the Three Kingdoms period in China,
there was a famous general in the Dongwu Kingdom. His name is (Gan Ning).
History books tell a story about him.
He has a violent personality and vulgar
behaviour and language, but he is also a cheerful person who has many ideas.
He doesn't value money, he values those who
have talent.
He takes good care of his subordinates, so
the soldiers under his command are very loyal to him.
In 213 AD, the Kingdom of Cao Wei sent an army of 400,000 men to attack the Kingdom of Dongwu, and the King of the Kingdom of Dongwu led 70,000 men to fight.
The armies of both sides are in a stalemate at (Ruxukou), and both sides want to wait for an opportunity to attack.
One day, the
king of the Kingdom of Dongwu had a secret meeting with him.
The king said to him.
The difference in strength between us and
the army of the Cao Wei Kingdom is too great, and our chances of winning in a
direct confrontation are very small.
In order to break their morale and raise
the fighting spirit of our soldiers, I order you to form a death squad.
You will lead this death squad to raid Cao
Wei's kingdom tonight.
He accepted this important task.
That afternoon, he selected over 100 of the
bravest and best soldiers in his army.
That night, he had a sumptuous dinner with
these soldiers.
After dinner, he raised his glass and said
to everyone.
I would like to offer you a glass of
Chinese rice wine.
This is the best glass of Chinese rice wine
that the King has given me, and I am sharing it with you all.
We are all drinking this cup of Chinese
rice wine together, which means that we have the same aspiration and
determination.
It was at this time that he saw that one of
the sergeants, out of more than 100 people, had not picked up his wine glass.
The sergeant had a look of fear and unease on his face.
He drew his knife, put it on his knee and
said loudly to the sergeant.
My identity and status are higher than
yours, and everything I have is more than yours, but at this moment I'm not
afraid or worried.
I believe we will be able to successfully
complete this mission to repay the King's favour. As long as this mission is
successful, I don't care if I die for it.
I am not you, tell me, why are you afraid?
Do you think this mission will fail, do you think you will sacrifice your life
in vain?
The sergeant was inspired to fight when he
heard what he said.
The sergeant picked up his glass and said
to him.
I think we will succeed in this mission and
come back alive.
At about 10 o'clock that night, their death
squad set out to carry out their mission.
This idiom means that he does not value
money, but he values those who are talented.
Dear friend, what kind of inspiration or
thought do you have after hearing this story?
Do you fear death? What do you think is more
important, money or talent?
I hope this story can give you a new
harvest.
(He doesn't value money, he values
those who have talent.)
