A classic book is more valuable than a large basket of gold(贏金一經)

During the Northern and Southern Dynasties of China, there was a famous minister in the Nanliang Kingdom, his name was (Xu Mian).

There is a story about him recorded in the history books.

He was an important official in the central government for a long time, and he was in charge of selecting talents to work in the central government.

He did not use his position for personal gain.

He used part of his salary to help his poorer relatives and friends. His savings were very small and he lived very simply.

His friend said to him.

You should think of your children. You should save more money and give it to your children.

He replied with a smile.

Most people want to leave a lot of money to their children when they die, but I want to leave my pure character and morality to my children.

If my children have a talent for making money, they will grow up to find ways to make money legally and become rich people.

If my children have no character or talent, then even if I leave them countless amounts of money, I think that this money will not belong to my children for a long time.

I am able to have my present status and reputation not only because of my talents, but more importantly because I have inherited the fine traditions of our family. I lead a simple and modest life and maintain clean moral standards.

These ideas of mine are not original to me. There are many records in history books that can confirm my views.

A famous official in the Han Dynasty once said.

A classic book is worth more than a basket of gold.

I very much agree with this saying,

I have been a central government official for over 30 years. Over the years, I have had many opportunities to make a lot of money from inside information, but I have rejected these temptations.

I have always stuck to the principles of my life and I hope I can be a role model for my children.

This idiom means that a classic book is more valuable than a large basket of gold.

Dear friend, what inspirations or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

What assets would you like to leave to your children? Have your parents left you anything of value?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(A classic book is more valuable than a large basket of gold)
