Ni Kuan (倪寬/仲文)

Ni Kuan (倪寬)(AD ?-103)

His surname is (Ni), his parents gave him the name (Kuan), and when he grew up his friends called him (Zhongwen). He was born in Shandong Province, China.

It means child. It means clues. It is also one of the Chinese family names.

It means wide. It means forgiveness.

The second among brothers.

It means pattern. Meaning is what the words mean. It is also one of the Chinese surnames.

He was a famous minister in the Western Han Dynasty of China.

There is a story about him recorded in history books.

In 113 BC, he was the mayor of the capital at that time.

He made a suggestion to the king.

The most important irrigation canal in the plain where our capital is located was built by the Qin Dynasty in 246 BC. This canal has been in use for more than 100 years.

In the past 100 years, with the expansion of the capital, the population of the capital has also increased greatly.

So I propose that six small canals be dug next to this big canal to increase the irrigated area.

This will increase rice production and meet the needs of the capital.

His suggestion was very constructive and the king agreed very much, so he started the project.

He dug six small canals very efficiently in a very short time.

As he had predicted, rice production in the suburbs around the capital increased greatly, and the king trusted him even more.

110 BC. The king made him prime minister of the Han dynasty.

In 110 BC, the king announced to all officials that he was going to Mount Tai in Shandong Province, China, to hold the highest ceremony to worship heaven and earth.

Ni Kuan was the chief planner. He coordinated the various government departments very well. He arranged the whole ceremony very smoothly, and every detail was very well thought out.

It is recorded in the history books that after this great sacrificial ceremony, a minister older and more senior than he said to him.

I was originally the most popular candidate for prime minister. I was not convinced because I did not become prime minister of the Han Dynasty. Originally, I thought that the king had made a mistake in appointing you as prime minister.

But now I have changed my mind, I think you are more capable than me.

The King made the right choice and you are a very competent Prime Minister.

Dear friend, what inspirations or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

Are there any public buildings with a long history in your country? At work, have you ever felt pressure from people who are more senior than you?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.
