Cai Yan(蔡琰)(AD?-AD?)
His surname is (Cai), his parents gave him
the name (Yan) and when he was growing up his friends called him (Wenji). He
was born in Henan Province, China.

Her father was a famous minister in the
Eastern Han Dynasty and his father's name was (Cai Yong).
She has had a very good education since she

She writes poems very well, she plays the
Chinese guqin very well, and she also writes Chinese calligraphy very well.
But her fate was bad.
When she came of age, she married a young
man of her own age from an upper class background.
But her husband died after a few years of
marriage.
The time she lived in happened to be the
last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty. There were many warlords fighting each
other in the Han Dynasty and the situation in China was very turbulent.
She was captured by the Huns during a war.
Because she was very famous and talented,
the Huns did not kill her.
The king of the Hun Kingdom treated her
very politely. She lived in the Xiongnu Kingdom for more than ten years.
In 207 AD, one of the most powerful
warlords of the Eastern Han Dynasty signed an agreement with the Xiongnu
Kingdom.
After this agreement came into effect, she
was released back to the Eastern Han Kingdom.
After returning to the Eastern Han Kingdom,
she married a very talented official of the Eastern Han Kingdom.
Her second husband was later almost
sentenced to death for a crime. She tried her best to save her husband and he
was saved from execution.
Her memory is amazing. Once she had a
conversation with the most powerful warlord in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
The warlord said to her
Your father is a good friend of mine. He is
a very learned man and has collected many classical and ancient books.
she replied.
You are right, my father has collected over
4,000 books.
I inherited those books after my father
died.
But later, because of the war, all these
books in my family collection were lost.
The warlord was also a person who loved to
read. The warlord had a sad expression on his face.
She said to the warlord.
I am very grateful to you for helping me
return to the Eastern Han Kingdom. Among these 4,000 books, I have a few
favourites, so I have memorised them all.

西元207年,東漢王國的一個勢力最大的軍閥與匈奴王國簽訂了一份協議。
這份協議生效後,她被釋放回東漢王國。
她回到東漢王國後,她嫁給一個有很才能的東漢王國的官員。
她的第二任丈夫後來因為犯罪差點被處以死刑,她盡了全力營救她的丈夫,她的丈夫才免於被處死。
她的記憶力非常的驚人,有一次她與東漢王國最有勢力的那一個軍閥對話。
那個軍閥對她說。
你的父親是我的好朋友,他是一個很有學問的人,他收藏了很多的經典的古代的書籍。
她回答。
你說的是對的,我的父親收藏了超過4000本書。
我的父親死後我繼承了這些書。
但是後來因為戰爭的關係,所以我家收藏的這些書都因此遺失了。
那個軍閥也是一個很喜歡讀書的人,這個軍閥的臉上露出悲痛的表情。
她對這個軍閥說。
我很感謝你幫助我回到東漢王國,這4000本書中,我有一些特別喜歡的,所以我把這些書都背起來了。
