His Extreme Sadness(司馬青衫)
There was a famous poet during the Tang
Dynasty in China, his name was (Bai Juyi).
He left behind more than 3,000 poems, the
most among all the poets of the Tang Dynasty.
At the age of 35, he joined the central
government as a mid-level official.
He was an upright man and often made many
suggestions to the king.
He also offended some in the establishment.
In 815 AD he was demoted and transferred to
what is now Jiangxi Province in China.
One day in 816 AD he wrote a narrative poem
of 612 words.
This poem became one of his most famous
works.
In this poem he describes an adventure he
had with a middle-aged pipa player.
In the poem, the pipa player tells her own
life story after finishing her performance.
After listening to her story, he said to
her
I would like to ask you to play the pipa
for us again, okay? I was very moved after listening to your performance, so
now I am inspired to write a poem for you.
After hearing Bai Juyi's words, the pipa
player also shed tears. This pipa player was very touched because her feelings
were felt by others and her piano skills were appreciated by others.
The pipa player nodded in agreement. She
turned and sat back in her chair. She tightened the strings and began to strum.
In this performance, the sound of the pipa
still revealed sentimentality, but within the sentimentality there was also a
hint of joy.
This performance was more touching than the
first, and everyone present could not help but shed tears.
Of all the people at the scene, who was the
most moved and who cried the most? That person was the frustrated blue-uniformed
official assigned to that small town.
The official in blue cried until his
clothes were soaked.
This idiom is used to describe a person who
is in a state of extreme sadness.
Dear friend, what inspirations or thoughts
do you have after listening to this story?
What has made you cry the most in your life?
Now that you think about the thing that made you cry, how do you feel?
I hope this story can give you some new
insights.
(His Extreme Sadness)
