We keep inviting and calling(千呼萬喚)

We keep inviting and calling(千呼萬喚)

There was a famous poet during the Tang Dynasty in China, his name was (Bai Juyi).

He left behind more than 3,000 poems, the most among all the poets of the Tang Dynasty.

At the age of 35, he joined the central government as a mid-level official.

He was an upright man and often made many suggestions to the king.

He also offended some in the establishment.

In 815 AD he was demoted and transferred to what is now Jiangxi Province in China.

One day in 816 AD he wrote a narrative poem of 612 words.

This poem became one of his most famous works.

There is a paragraph in this poem that reads as follows

One autumn night, I was saying goodbye to a good friend of mine at the jetty on the Xunyang River.

The wind on the river bank was strong and cold, and the maple trees and reeds on the bank were blown by the wind and made a rustling sound.

I had a banquet on the boat and drank wine in the hut with my good friends.

We are very sad because we will soon be separated.

At the end of the banquet we came out of the cabin. We saw that the night was already deep and the light of the moon was reflected on the river.

Suddenly both of us heard the sound of someone playing the pipa, and both of us were immersed in this wonderful sound.

We followed this beautiful sound and saw a boat. The sound of the pipa was coming from that ship.

When we arrived at the ship, we politely told the pipa player in the cabin of the ship that we really liked the pipa you were playing.

The two of us would like to ask you to come to our boat and play a song for us.

We would be very happy and grateful if you would agree to our request.

After our constant invitations and calls, the pipa player finally agreed to our request, came out of his hut and walked onto our boat.

Only then did we see that the person was a woman. The pipa in her arms covered half of her face.

This idiom means that we keep inviting and calling.

Dear friend, what inspirations or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

In your life, what performance have you heard and thought was the best? Have you ever heard the sound of a Chinese musical instrument like the pipa?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(We keep inviting and calling)
