During the Han Dynasty in China, historians
divide it into the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC - 8 AD) and the Eastern Han
Dynasty (25 AD - 220 AD).
Between these two dynasties there was a
short-lived new dynasty (9 AD - 23 AD).
The name of the king who founded the new
dynasty was (Wang Mang).
After establishing the new dynasty, he made
a number of laws and carried out many reforms to the social system.
His reforms were well-intentioned, and he
hoped that through his reforms the society at that time could become fairer and
more equal.
But because his reform methods were too
drastic and his reform strategies were constantly revised, the people did not
like his reforms.
These reforms made people's lives more
miserable.
In 17 AD, there was a severe locust plague
and drought in China. Most of the people were in a state of famine. So many
farmers across China formed resistance armies to resist the rule of his new
dynasty.
Among these peasant armies, there are two
main military forces.
One of them is called the Red Eyebrow Army.
If you want to join this group, you have to dye your eyebrows red.
The name of the other military force is
(Green Forest Army).
The direct translation of this name means a
rebel who lives in the green forest.
In 23 AD, the (Green Forest Army) captured
the capital of the new dynasty, and Wang Mang was killed by the (Green Forest
Army) soldiers.
The new dynasty was declared extinct after
only 15 years of existence.
This idiom is used to describe some rebels
who are dissatisfied with the ruler's rule.
This idiom is also used to describe those
bandits who live in the mountains and forests.

另外一股軍事勢力的名字叫做(綠林軍)。
這個名字直接翻譯的意思就是一隻生活在綠色的森林中的反抗軍。
西元23年，(綠林軍)攻下新王朝的首都，王莽被(綠林軍)的戰士們所殺。
新王朝只成立了短短15年就宣告滅亡。
