Ji Zun(祭遵/弟孫)

Ji Zun(祭遵) (BC - AD 33)

His surname was Ji, and his parents gave him the name Zun. As he grew up, his friends called him Disun. He was born in Henan Province, China.

It means sacrifice. It is also one of the Chinese family names.

It means to follow.

It means the younger brother. It means disciple.

It means grandson. It is also one of the Chinese surnames.

He was a famous minister in the Eastern Han Dynasty of China and his story is recorded in history books.

One day the founding king of the Eastern Han Dynasty said to him

I want to give you an assignment. I want you to lead an army to Hebei to attack the warlords there.

After receiving this order, he began to gather military equipment and soldiers.

While he was doing this, he discovered that there was a person who was using his special status to commit corruption in the purchase of military equipment.

This man was a servant of the king and was very close to the king.

He was a very honest and upright minister, so he arrested this man and executed him according to the law.

When the king heard about this, he was very angry. The king said angrily to one of the ministers.

Ji Zun was so brave. He actually killed the servant who had been with me for a long time and was very close to me.

I think he disrespected me so much that I'm going to kill him.

After hearing the king's words, the minister calmly said to the king.

Are you really going to kill him?

Ji Zun is a general who carries out his duties according to the laws of the land.

Your servant committed these illegal acts without your knowledge, and your servant's actions have harmed the interests of the entire kingdom.

Ji Zun executed your servant according to the law. He only did what he had to do. He made no mistake.

In my opinion, not only should you not blame him, but you should praise him.

Only in this way will everyone know that you are a wise and just king.

After listening to the minister, the king remained silent for tens of minutes and then said to the minister

I am very grateful to you for giving me your loyal opinions. Your opinions are correct.

I will publicly praise Ji Zun. I hope other ministers can learn from Ji Zun's behaviour and courage.

Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

If you were Ji Zun, would you dare to kill this illegal servant according to the law? If you were a king, could you think rationally and make the right decision?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.
