He was a prime minister of the Wei Kingdom
during the Warring States Period in China. There is a story about him recorded
in the history books.
In 362 BC, the Kingdom of Han and the
Kingdom of Zhao formed a joint army to attack the Kingdom of Wei.
He led the army of the Wei Kingdom into
battle.
At the end of the battle, under his leadership,
the army of the Wei Kingdom won a great victory.
The king was very happy when he heard the
news. He told all the ministers in public.
(Gongshu Zuo) has led our army to victory,
and I will give him a huge reward.

The army of our kingdom is very well
trained on weekdays. These soldiers have good fighting skills and are good at
fighting. These soldiers have a strong fighting spirit and are not afraid of
death. These soldiers are so strong because of the generals who led them
before. The name of this general is (Wu Qi).
When we fight on the battlefield, we
analyse the enemy's and our combat capabilities, study the battlefield terrain,
and formulate combat strategies, and the two most important contributors to
sending soldiers to the battlefield are two very important military staff
officers like me. The names of these two military staff officers are (Baning)
and (Cuan Xiang).
The victory in this battle must be
attributed to one person. That person is you.
Because you are a fair and just king, you
will set up a clear reward and punishment mechanism so that all the soldiers
will fight bravely against the enemy to receive the huge rewards you have
promised.
After saying these words, Gongsun Zuo
paused and continued to speak to the king.

small.
The people you should reward are (Wu Qi),
(Baning), (Cuan Xiang) and all the soldiers. You should not give me such a huge
reward.
After listening to his words, the king was
deeply moved, took his hand and said to all the ministers at the same time.
Because of Gong Shuzuo's reminder, I will
give Baning, Cuan Xiang, and the soldiers a huge reward.
Wu Qi is no longer in this world. I want to
give these rewards to his son.
Because of (Gong Shuzuo's) humility, I will
give him a greater reward than I had originally planned.
I will give him 1.4 million acres of land.
After the king said these words, all the
ministers praised the king loudly.

我們在戰場上對戰的時候，針對敵人與我們的戰力進行分析，針對戰場上的地形進行研究並且擬定作戰策略，安排戰場上的士兵的調度的最大功臣是我兩個很重要的軍事參謀。這兩個軍事參謀的名字是(巴寧)與(爨襄)。
這場戰役的勝利還必須要歸功給一個人。這個人就是你。
因為你是一個公平又正義的國王，你制定明確的獎賞與處罰機制，因此所有的士兵們為了獲得你所承諾的巨大的獎賞，每個士兵都勇敢地與敵人爭戰。
說完這些話後，公叔座停頓了一下接著繼續對國王說。
與你們相比，我的功勞太小了。
你應該獎賞的人是(吳起)與(巴寧)與(爨襄)和所有的士兵，你不應該給我如此巨大的獎賞。
國王聽完他的話後，國王很感動的牽著他的手同時對所有大臣說。
因為(公叔座)的提醒，所以我會給巴寧與爨襄和士兵們巨大的獎勵。
吳起已經不在這個世界上了，我要把這些獎勵給他的兒子。
因為(公叔座)的謙遜，所以我會給他比原本我想給他的獎勵更巨大的獎賞。
我要給他140萬畝的土地。
