He was a famous musician and scholar in the
Han Dynasty of China, and his story is recorded in history books.
He did a lot of research on ancient Chinese
folk music. He collected many folk tunes and re-created many songs. However,
his musical ideas were not recognized by the nobles at that time.
The king at that time wanted to pursue
eternal life.
He said to the king.
I believe that the human body and soul are
inseparable and cannot exist alone.
If a person's body is a candle, then a
person's soul is the candle flame.
A person's life is like lighting a candle.
When the candle burns out, the candle flame goes out.
The life of each of us is limited. What we
should do is to pursue becoming a person with a higher moral level while we are
alive. We should not be superstitious, we should not believe what those
warlocks say, and we should not believe that a person can Live forever.
The king did not follow his advice.
The king at that time wanted to predict the
future of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
He said to the king.
I don’t think it’s possible for people to
predict the future through pictures and words. If the predictions of these
fortune tellers seem to us to be accurate, I think it’s just chance.
A wise king should not want to use such
absurd methods to make the kingdom prosperous. A wise king should focus on how
to govern the people in the kingdom with justice and kindness.
Because everything he said made the king
unhappy, the king didn't like him.

他是中國的漢王朝的一個著名的音樂家與學者，歷史書上記載了一個他的故事。
他對中國古代的民間的音樂很有研究，他蒐集了很多民間的曲調並且再創作出很多歌曲，但是他的音樂理念沒有辦法得到當時的貴族們的認同。
當時的國王想要追求永生。
他對國王說。
我認為人的肉體與靈魂無法分離，這兩者無法獨自存在。
如果一個人的肉體是一根蠟燭，那麼一個人的靈魂就是燭火。
一個人的一生就如同點燃了一根蠟燭，當蠟燭燒完的時候，燭火就熄滅了。
我們每個人的生命都是有限的，我們應該做的事在活著的時候追求成為一個道德水平更高的人，我們不應該迷信，我們不應該相信那些術士的說法，我們不應該相信一個人可以永遠活著。
國王沒有聽從他的建議。
當時的國王想要預測東漢王朝的未來。
他對國王說。
我認為人不可能透過圖畫與文字預知未來，如果這些占卜師的預測讓我們覺得很準確，但我認為這只是偶然。
一個有智慧的國王不應該想要採用這種荒誕的方法去讓王國變的繁榮，一個有智慧的國王應該把重心放在如何用公義與仁慈治理王國中的百姓。
因為他說的話都讓國王很不開心，所以國王不喜歡他。
