Although this is the first time we have met, I feel we have known each other for a long time.(一面如舊)

In China's Jin Dynasty, there was a famous minister who was also a famous scholar. His story is recorded in history books.

He is a person who likes to read a lot. He is very knowledgeable and has collected a lot of books.

Many of the books he collected were rare and out of print, so many scholars at that time came to borrow books from him when they wanted to do research.

Once, when he moved, the books in his house were loaded onto thirty ox carts.

He likes to socialise with young people. If he meets a very talented but relatively poor young man, he will do his best to encourage and help him.

Once, two young men came to see him. Their names were Lu Ji and Lu Yun.

These two young men came from the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and were visiting the capital of the Jin Dynasty for the first time.

He said to the two young people that he had a very happy conversation after meeting them.

Although we were meeting for the first time, I felt as if we had known each other for a long time.

The two young men replied happily.

We both came from aristocratic families in the Soochow Kingdom. We have been well educated since childhood. We think we know a lot. We think we are very good, and we are proud of our excellence.

But meeting you today made us realise how little we know. Your knowledge is so profound, and more importantly, you have a very good moral character. We are honoured to know you.

This idiom means that although this is the first time we have met, I feel we have known each other for a long time.

Dear friend, what inspirations or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

Have you ever felt that you have just met someone, but you feel that you have known each other for a long time? Who is the scholar you respect the most?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(Although this is the first time we have met, I feel we have known each other for a long time.)
