When he grew up, he became an official of the Western Jin Kingdom. After the fall of the Western Jin Kingdom, he fled to the Eastern Jin Kingdom.

Because he was very talented and upright, the king of the Eastern Jin Kingdom also appointed him as an official of the central government.

He was assigned to serve as the county magistrate of a county in present-day Jiangsu Province, China.

He is a very simple person, his clothes are made of very ordinary materials, and the food he eats is basically vegetables.

When he hears that someone is in trouble or in need, he will use his salary to help them. He will not despise a person because of his low status.

The people of the county where he served liked and respected him.

A few years after his arrival, a famine broke out in the county.

He wrote a letter asking the king to take the rice from the government granary to help the people who were starving because of the shortage of rice.

He waited for several weeks but received no reply from the king, so he decided on his own. He took the rice from the government granary to help the people who were starving.

A few years later, he was informed that he was being transferred from this position. The people in the district were very sad to hear this.

These people knew that almost all of his salary as District Magistrate had been used to relieve the poor in recent years, so these people voluntarily put together a large sum of money to give to him.

He said to these people

Thank you very much, but I won't accept the money.

On the day he was about to leave this district, almost all the people in the district came to the boat he was about to take.

These people held on to the rope of the boat he was going to take, and these people went to say goodbye to him one by one.

It wasn't until late that night, after the people who had gathered around his boat had gone home, that he quietly left the county.

After he left this county, the people of this county have always missed him.
