Ruan Fu waxes his clogs(阮孚蠟屐)

Ruan Fu waxes his clogs(阮孚蠟屐)

There was a famous minister in China's Eastern Jin Dynasty, his name was Ruan Fu.

There is a story about him recorded in the history books.

According to ancient history books, it has been more than 2,000 years since the Chinese invented clogs and started wearing them.

Ruan Fu likes clogs very much and he owns many expensive clogs. He was a very famous clog collector at that time.

There was also a minister at that time, and his name was (Zu Yue). Zuyue was also a famous collector at that time. But Zuyue's collection was of jewellery.

One day some ministers in the Eastern Jin Dynasty were talking, and these ministers were talking about collecting.

One minister said to the others

Once I went to Zuyue's house to look for him.

As I entered the living room of his house, he happened to be admiring his collection of jewellery in the living room.

He was startled when he saw me entering his living room.

He quickly put all the jewellery he had on the table into two small wooden boxes and placed the two small wooden boxes behind him.

When I spoke to him later, he seemed to be in a very uncomfortable state from start to finish.

His actions and reactions made me think that he is a person who sees the small picture.

All the ministers agreed with this minister.

Then another minister said

The experience you mentioned reminds me of something I personally experienced not long ago.

That day I went to Ruan Fu's house to look for him.

When I walked into his living room, he was wiping all his clogs in the living room.

He smiled and asked me to sit down beside him.

He continued to slowly wax his clogs while chatting to me.

Halfway through the chat he suddenly smiled and said something to me that I found very philosophical.

He said.

I have so many beautiful and luxurious clogs, but my life is so short. I don't know how many times I can wear these shoes.

His actions and reactions made me think he was a big person.

All the ministers agreed with the other minister.

The literal translation of this idiom is that Ruan Fu waxes his clogs

It is used to describe a person who is addicted to some kind of collecting.

(Ruan Fu waxes his clogs)
