In the Yuan Dynasty of China, there was a
mysterious playwright who wrote many plays. His name was Zheng Tingyu.
He wrote more than 23 plays, most of which
are lost.
Of his only five surviving plays, one is
based on a historical story between the Chu Kingdom and the Wu Kingdom in
China's Spring and Autumn Period.
The outline of the story in the fourth act
of the play is as follows
During the Spring and Autumn Period in
China, the king of the Wu Kingdom lost his sword called Zhanlu.
After investigating, the king of the Wu
Kingdom discovered that the sword was actually in the hands of the king of the
Chu Kingdom.
As the king of the Chu Kingdom was
unwilling to return the sword, the Wu Kingdom sent a general named Wu Zixu to
lead an army of 400,000 men to attack the Chu Kingdom.
Because the Wu army was too strong, the Chu
capital was captured a few weeks later, and the Chu were unable to
counterattack.
An envoy from the Chu Kingdom named (Shen
Baoxu) arrived in the capital of the Qin Kingdom.
Shen Baoxu begged the King of Qin to send
Qin's army to help the Chu Kingdom.
The king of the Qin Kingdom sent a general
from the Qin Kingdom who was good at fighting to lead an army of 100,000 men
and Shen Baoxu to the Chu Kingdom to fight against the Wu Kingdom.
After hearing the news, Wu Zixu made a
decision.
He gave orders to the troops under his
command.
We have achieved this military objective
and successfully recovered the sword lost by the king of Wu Kingdom. I have
decided to retreat, and we will return to the Kingdom of Wu immediately today.
A few days after Shen Baoxu led the troops
of the Qin Kingdom to the capital of the Chu Kingdom, the fleeing king of the
Chu Kingdom and his younger brother also returned to the capital of the Chu
Kingdom.
The king of the Chu Kingdom returned to his
palace, and all the fleeing ministers of the Chu Kingdom returned to the
central government one by one.
The central government of the Chu Kingdom
began to resume its usual busy schedule. A few days later, something happened
that took the king of Chu Kingdom by surprise.
As the king's wife and son were fleeing,
they fell into the river.
The king's wife and son were very lucky and
neither of them drowned.
The king's wife and son returned to the
palace, and the king happily embraced his children and wife.
The king of Chu Kingdom was so happy that
he held a very grand banquet.
An ambassador from the Qin Kingdom attended
the banquet.
The Qin ambassador was shocked when he saw
the Chu king's wife and child.
The Qin ambassador asked the Chu king.
I heard that your wife and son drowned
during their escape, but why did they show up at this party? What happened?
said the king happily to the Qin
ambassador.
After they fell into the river, they had
many wonderful encounters. If you want to listen to this story, it will take a
long time.
The Qin ambassador smiled and replied to
the king.
I really want to know what happened to
them.
If you are willing to tell me, I will
listen to you with great respect.
The party went on and the play ended on a
happy note.

respectful attitude)
